INCLUSIVITY & VALUES POLICY.

INCLUSIVITY & VALUES POLICY

Our stance

At A Journey Ahead Limited, our work is rooted in dignity, autonomy, and respect for every individual navigating pregnancy, birth, parenting, and life transitions.

We are committed to creating spaces — both digital and in-person — that are safe, ethical, inclusive, and grounded in care.

Language and intention

Much of our content, including within the My Pocket Doula App®, uses language such as women, mother, and female. This reflects the reality that the majority of people accessing maternity care identify in this way, and that women’s experiences of pregnancy and birth have historically been medicalised, dismissed, and politicised.

At the same time, we recognise and respect that not all people who become pregnant or give birth identify as women.

Our intention is never to exclude. Language is used thoughtfully, practically, and with care — not as a statement about who is “allowed” to belong.

If at any point our language feels misaligned with your identity, you are still welcome here.

Who this space is for

This work is for people who are pregnant, birthing, parenting, or supporting those who are — regardless of gender identity, sexual orientation, relationship structure, race, ethnicity, ability, faith, or background.

We explicitly welcome:
– trans and non-binary people
– LGBTQ+ families
– solo parents and blended families
– neurodivergent individuals
– people navigating birth outside of mainstream systems

We recognise that systems of maternity care do not affect everyone equally, and that access, safety and autonomy are shaped by social, cultural and structural factors.

Ethical foundations

Our work is guided by the following principles:

Autonomy: You are the expert in your own body and life.
Informed choice: Information should empower, not coerce.
Non-judgement: There is no single “right” way to give birth or parent.
Trauma-awareness: Care is taken not to retraumatise or shame.
Integrity: We do not use fear-based messaging or manipulation.
Respect: Differences are met with curiosity, not correction.

What we do not support

We do not support:
– discrimination or exclusion of any kind
– fear-based or coercive practices
– shaming language around birth, feeding or parenting choices
– misinformation or ideology presented as fact

We reserve the right to set boundaries where behaviour or messaging conflicts with these values.

Ongoing reflection

Inclusivity is not a fixed destination. It is an ongoing practice.

We are committed to listening, learning, and evolving — while also staying rooted in clarity, honesty and integrity about the work we do and the language we use.

A note on safety and respect

We expect anyone engaging with our platforms, content or community spaces to do so respectfully.

Abusive, hateful or discriminatory behaviour will not be tolerated.
